Causes laptop to kernel panic September 8, 2008 James Stewart (Grand Rapids, MI, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this thinking it'd be a good way to save on precious USB ports and a quick way to transfer photos from my DSLR. Unfortunately about two-thirds of the time it causes my laptop to kernel panic when I first insert it and I have to reboot, losing any unsaved data.
After a reboot it performs okay but speed is highly variable and so it's hard to rely on, particularly in high pressure situations where there isn't time to just leave a laptop standing while photos import.
The idea's good, but I'd steer clear of this product in future.

The CF Adapter worked as promise - fast and accurate. It's a great product for any photographer.
To Buggy June 18, 2008 T. Martyn (Dallas, TX (Sudan/Kenya)) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
It's FAST! The problem is that it is the only thing that has created a system level kernal panic crash of my MacBook Pro in the last 2 years. There is a very specific sequence you have to use when using this card. I have not used it a lot yet, but it seems that you have to put the expresscard in the computer w/o the CF card in it. Then insert the CF card in the reader, being careful not to eject the reader from the slot while doing this. If you have the card in the reader before putting the reader in the computer, it will not work. I pulled the card out and re-inserted it and it crashed my computer. NOT COOL! It did not come with any driver installers or make any suggestions to do so. I'm going to continue to look online to see if there are any.
As of right now, I have to say go with a FW or USB reader until the bugs are worked out. It may simply be a driver issue. I don't know enough about these things to be sure.
PS. Mine does not look like the one in the pic. Instead of the white piece on the end, it's black.
Forces me to restart May 19, 2008 Katharine Decker (San Jose, CA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have a MacBook Pro, and after reading many reviews bought this product. The transfer speed is great, when it works. The trouble I have is every time I insert a card into the reader, I get that grey screen that tells me to hold down the power button to restart my computer, in about 6 different languages. I restart, after loosing progress on the things this "grey screen of death" as interrupted, then I am able to read the card just fine. This is a horrible manufacture default. I'd give this product 1/2 a star if i could and if i could take a screen shot when that grey screen appears, i would but this freezes my computer.
I don't even know if what I received was a Delkin model as there is no marking on my reader at all. Bottom line: Do not buy this product.
So Far Excellent May 8, 2008 aarghj (travelling) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I am a photographer, and the images I take can be quite large. I sometimes transfer 8 gigs at a time off of my camera's compact flash cards. This card is amazingly fast and cuts my transfer times down to probably a third or less of what it used to take when I used a USB card reader.
I am very pleased so far.
