This is a HORRIBLE product. Do not buy it. November 13, 2008 James Lucier (Arlington, VA USA) For years I have been trying to find a device that would scan business cards for the Mac just as easily as Corex Cardscan scans business cards for the PC. This product is NOT it. It does not work. I studied computer science at a major university. I could not figure this product out and make it work. The software is weird, flaky, and inscrutable. The install disk would not even boot until I downloaded a patch and installed that first. It's got the worst human factor design of any product I have seen. Everything about its operation is counter intuitive--when you get it to work. Basic stuff like converting all caps to cap/lower case doesn't seem to exist. Bottom line: you will be bitterly disappointed with this product. Mac users expect that you plug in a device and it works--this is so far from that ideal it is laughable. Plus, after years of stalling, Corex finally has Cardscan for the Mac, which I am using now right out of the box. I am very happy with it. Use that instead. Disappointed September 7, 2008 Timothy D. Isaac The software is very slow and cumbersome. The unit I purchased would never scan a business card after many attempts of loading and unloading of the software and even working with technical support. My recommendation is not to purchase this item.
IRISCard Pro 4 August 14, 2008 B. Baxter (Pennsylvania USA) The IRISCard Pro 4 is one of the most handy gadgets around. I had never even heard of a business card scanner until I came across the IRISCard that my colleague had. It wasn't long before I went and got one of my own. I no longer have to keep all those business cards that I collect on my desk or in my bag, or basically anywhere else I end up keeping them. The fact that it is so portable is the best part. I bring it along with me to my meetings and can actually just plug and scan right after the meeting is done. It has saved me a lot of time and has definitely lessened my clutter and kept me just a little bit more organized.
Poor Mac product with no twain support March 24, 2008 D. Babcock (TX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this product because of promised Mac support and integration with the Mac Address Book. It does work to a degree but I do not recommend this product unless your really just want the card images.
* The scanning software is just another very bad port of Windows software: - Very, very hard to use and not intuitive at all - Many features don't work. Drag and drop just doesn't work in most cases. - Slips into "modes" that you can't figure out. Menus become gray. Things kind of quit working. Quit and restart required.
* Button scanner is a separate program that even shows up on the Task Bar. Nobody at IRIS every heard of system preferences?
* OCR is very spotty. A boring Business Card scans pretty good. One with glossy or picture background doesn't do very well
* No Twain support. What? For $200 every scanner should come with a Twain driver for integration into other software applications.
* No preference where your scan files go. Are you kidding? Preferences folks. Just not that hard. All image scans go in Documents->IrisScan. Gee, that's where I would naturally look. Why not at least put it in the pictures folder. Well, at least they didn't put it in the Library->Application Support folder. Kudos for that.
* It is small and USB bus powered. That's kind of cool. However, my iMac lacks enough power off the keyboard USB port.
* Scan straightening works well if it can recognize some text. Just an image will not be straightened from my experience.
The bottom line is that I can't make use of the product. It's just not good enough. It takes way more time than entering the information by hand. It had such promise, too bad.
IRIS Card Reader Good on Mac February 29, 2008 Mac Business User IRIS Card Reader works good on Mac. It saves a bunch of time. Application screen could be a little more straight forward, but not a deal killer. If you are doing business on a Mac, this will help you save a lot of time.
