Product Description The AF-S VR 105 f/2.8G IF-ED brings the benefits of vibration reduction (VR) to the domain of Macro photography. It offers high-resolution, high-optical performance for both digital and 35mm film format SLR cameras. This lens incorporates Nikon's second-generation vibration reduction system (VR II) that allows flexible hand-held shooting by stabilizing the image to the equivalent stability of a shutter speed that is 4 stops faster when compared with a conventional lens. The SWM (Silent Wave Motor) and IF (Internal Focusing) ensure quiet autofocusing with quick and convenient switching between autofocus and manual operation. Optical performance is enhanced by an ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element that minimizes chromatic aberration, and Nano Crystal Coat which drastically reduces flare, enabling finely defined, clear images.

Hobby November 19, 2008 Steven L. Mays (Portland, OR) I have a Nikon D80. I like to take close-ups of flowers and textured objects of interest. This new lens gives me full scale of the object and outstanding clarity. The anti-shake feature is great for hand-held. Being able to switch from auto-focus to manual quickly and easily is a big plus. Love it.
Dragon Fly November 18, 2008 John C. Krakovsky Jr. To test this lens, I took a picture of a 1 inch dragonfly from 12 inches away. What amazed me was the ability to either focus on the face, legs or feet. The AF was really fast. I also printed to picture out large enough so the dragonfly was 8 times it's size. I could find no distortion. Usually with my nikon lens, I will take 10 pictures and 9 would come out good. This lens was 10 out of 10. It was also fast enough to take a picture of a bird in mid flight and there was no blurryness on the wings. I highly recomend this lens for taking pictures of small creatures.
The Best Nikon lens I'd ever had November 2, 2008 Nikon Man (OC, CA, USA) This is no doubt the best lens for macro or close up medical photographs. Highly recommended for any serious medical professionals who need excellent documentation of close up facial shots.
Better than Expected October 30, 2008 Mike vS (San Jose, California) After seeing so many great close-ups, I got this macro lens because I wanted to take some too. Macro work has a learning curve, which I'm only starting to master.
I had read about focus breathing issues with this lens, but have found it to be no issue at all for me. Getting a subject still enough and enough depth of field are far more challenging for me.
As a bonus, I find that this lens does great as a medium distance portrait lens, where the VR and f/2.8 aperture really help. This lens is weakest at distance, where sharpness can be a little off, at least in my sample of this lens.
Overall, the macro works great, and the medium distance capabilities are a pleasant bonus to this great lens.
Great... But it is a NIKON after all. October 24, 2008 Robert Great lens. Nikon quality construction, optics, form and function. Nuff said. Oh yea... Amazon is great too.
