1 out of 5 stars Installation Nightmare   January 8, 2009
C. Sabin (Utah)
This product has dozens of installation problems. First, it installs three different copies of the printer, and defaults to a random copy. Several times a day, I am having a "HP Photosmart C5200 series (2) installed" pop up in my taskbar. At random times, I am not able to print at all, or I have installation menus pop up requesting me to reinstall using the CD. Since installation, I have noticed a significant slowdown on my computer; this printer allocates a great deal of memory and never releases it. This printer is a nightmare - don't get anywhere near it.

That being said, if you've already have it and are stuck with it, it does print cleanly and fairly quickly. The scanner is decent, very good for the price. Copier works great. So as long as you don't mind an on-again off-again printer, this is a good one. But if you need to print when you click the print document button... buy something else.

5 out of 5 stars What's not to like...   January 1, 2009
Roger (Illinois)
I'm been very happy with my purchase of the Photosmart C5280. It was easy to setup & install. I simply followed the easy to read & understand directions, it was flawless. It scans, copies, prints, I would recommend this for any home user or even small home business. The print quality is good. Is it lighting fast? No, but it isn't slow either & what do you expect for $100. If I had to do it over again, I would but it again. I've scanned and copied old pictures & documents for my family tree I'm working on. And I've emailed them to appreciating family members. It's been a great help. I have not used the feature that prints onto a CD, so I can't comment on it. I think it is a great buy for the money.

4 out of 5 stars Great for CD/DVD printing   October 12, 2008
John A. Madison (Louisville, Kentucky United States)
I can't beleive some of the bad reviews. The CD/DVD printing alone is worth the price. In addition, you get scanning, lab quality printing without a PC, copying function & relatively cheap ink replacement cartridges. It wasn't that long ago you didn't get all of these features without throwing down a few hundred dollars. I paid $65 on clearance. Superb printer for the money!

2 out of 5 stars Buggy Software and Lame Tech Support   October 6, 2008
J. Lopez (Baltimore, MD)
If you are planning on using this as a networked printer you might want to look to another brand. The printer itself is fine but the HP Networking software is buggy and causes error messages when you shut down Windows (both XP and Vista).

I tried the Email support and went round and round with them. Their solution was to uninstall then reinstall the software. When that didn't work, their next suggestion was to uninstall then reinstall the software. When that didn't work they had me download a software update, then uninstall and reinstall the software. When that didn't work....do you detect a pattern here?

They can't even tell me how to assign a permanent IP address for the printer USING THEIR OWN SOFTWARE!

I got this printer for free with my computer. I should've haggled and made the computer store pay me to accept it. Yeah, it's that bad. It takes too long to print, cartridges are costly and don't have any longevity. The software package is frustrating to use. My last HP printer sucked too. Are there any good printers out there?
