A very good video editing system, but... October 20, 2009 Tom Willett (Tennessee) I have three different computers. One is an ailing Windows XP. This program worked well there. I have a Windows Vista 32 bit. The Magix does not work so well there. It does work on some things but not big files and big editing projects. I have a Windows Vista 64 bit which is not connected to the internet. Magix Pro 14 works well on that. I use that for most of my video projects now.
I received my Magix software for free from Magix because I used it on my videos at YouTube and they appreciated the free advertising I was giving them. While their software was free and I appreciate it, their customer support was sadly lacking, like most customer support. Their tutorial that comes with the software is OK but the narrator is speaking like a mechanical robot or some lifeless techno puppet.
The Help section of the software does not have enough info. Mine does not list the Clone or Cloning abilities, for example. Cloning is a big deal for videomakers. I use cloning very often in my videos. Magix should be raving about that and have tutorials about each and every effect they have built into this program. They could have it online and have a pointer from their Help section.
The good things about Magix are many. This program does 99 tracks of anything you might want. You can put a video track and an audio track on tracks one and two. You can add an audio musical pad on another track and a narration audio track on top of that. If you have two people conversing and two cameras recording them, you can synch them up and split the scenes wherever you want and slide one scene out of the way so the video track under it shows through. That means you can "cut" back and forth between them. You can do all sorts of audio effects on any audio track.
If you watch my video of Blasto Skymaster at YouTube you will see a scene where I am flying a plane and lightning is striking all around me. The plane is a jpg image I drew in Paint. I did a side view of myself with a green screen background. I used a video I made of some clouds in the sky as I panned the camera. I drew a streak of lightning in paint and added that to a frame here and there. I then added explosions I had purchased from a special effects supplier. I added an explosion sound on a separate track. That made a stack of five videos and one audio and sometimes more because I overlapped some audio and video. I had lots of tracks still free to use. I do not know of any other low cost video editor that can do that. If you have Windows Vista 32, I would carefully check before ordering this but it should work well on XP and it works well on my Vista 64. I use the name Featureman at YouTube. There are many cloning videos of mine there and other YouTubers who use Magix. Have fun with it.
Finally. A video program that works!Converted my VHS to DVD. July 30, 2009 DISenchanted (NM USA -Land of DISenchantment) I had tried a boat load of video software editors, before finding this one.
Might not be as fancy as newer, competitor's apps, but it worked
(whereas the competitor's software did NOT.
.
The task I wanted to accomplish was to convert VHS training videos over to a dvd format.
Very simple in concept, but quite hard in actuallity.
The Magix software worked great.
No crashes, no drop-outs, easy to use interface,
It did what I wanted it to do.
I have 3 diffeernt video to USB decoders:
- dazzle 150
- dazzle DVC100
- ADS tech "DVD Xpress DX2
The corel Videostudio seemed to hold promise, but in the end, it did not work.
with any of these 3 devices, correctly.
Except for the Magic software, the other softwares (corel)had problems detecting my hardware, and/or capturing video.
[I should have never broken the software seal on the corel video softwaer.
A downgrade January 20, 2009 M. Buckner 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
&I have Movie Edit Pro 2004 & compared to this version it is a downgrade.
When ever you import your video from a digital camcorder it does not capture the cuts accurately. The automatic cuts are not 100% accurate. You will have to do them yourself. Edit pro 2004 did not have these issues. In order to have accurate cuts, you must manually do them yourself & you are potentially adding hours of time to your project. If you don't, then your transitions look horrible. I have contacted their support they admit that there cuts are not 100% accurate.
A quote from tech support "The automatic quotes are not 100% accurate. You will have to do them yourself if you need more accuracies"
That is unacceptable, their previous software versions worked fine.
Buyer Beware.
Doesn't do enough! December 12, 2008 John F. Passero 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
To get to do what you really want, you have to pay much more for an upgrade. The program that came with my camera does more.
usless if going to play on dvd player December 8, 2008 M. Newman 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this product which worked great on the computer. Had many features that I loved. The creation part was wonderful and played great on my computer. When it came to playing the created dvd on my Sony dvd player (I tried it on three different players)it would not play. I tried repeated options and also followed the direction of the support I received from the software mfg. The dvd's are now only good for coasters. A big waste of money.
