1 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy - This is Junk   February 11, 2010
M. J. Baer
In a world of over-optioned, poorly thought out, opaque software, this takes a prize. For example, trying to resize an image so that it prints in the size desired is a huge mystery. There is a great amount of explanation, both on the screen and in the manual, but it couldn't be less helpful. I really appreciated the instructions to use a button on a menu where no such button existed! I wound up doing the resizing on a version of Arcsoft's Photostudio that came with a scanner I bought five years ago.

If you get this software for free, you've overpaid - this is GARBAGE.

4 out of 5 stars A generic Photoshop   January 21, 2010

This program would likely make a satisfactory photoshop replacement for people that didn't want to buy Photoshop CS4, but want similar features. Its layout, organization, and tools are very similar to the full-featured photoshop (more so than photoshop elements), but without the steep price. The tutorials provided are sufficient to get you up to speed with the program fairly quickly, likely even if you haven't done any photo processing before. I found the mandatory registration slightly frustrating, I was forced to call and activate the product (14 minutes on the phone I found quite needless) before I even got to use it. That was annoying, and knocked the product down from 5 stars. Other than that, Photoplus is fairly powerful, and gives you a lot of control over your images for the price. While I'll likely stick with photoshop and lightroom, I'd certainly consider this product if I weren't going to use those.

4 out of 5 stars Simple and easy to use   January 19, 2010

A very nice and easy to use photo-edit software, with a decent price, no less. I found it very user-friendly and particularly liked the QuickFix studio, which allows you to edit photos with just a few mouse clicks. I also enjoyed playing around with the panorama software kind of fun. My teenage son, who has a lot more time to play with things like this than I do, also liked it but he said he still prefers Adobe Photoshop which he finds a little easier and more powerful. Still, I imagine most users will be very pleased with this program and it will meet most normal needs for an affordable price. As others have mentioned the registration process is a little odd, requiring you to call an 800 number in Nottingham, England - not as convenient for those of us in the US - but it still ran quite smoothly and the guy on the other end was exceptionally polite and pleasant.

1 out of 5 stars the process to register is ridiculous   January 13, 2010

first of all you shouldnt have to register to use the product. you paid for it! it's pretty much like a sales thing when you register it and you can't use the it till you do. and of course its EST so that was a problem for me. ive had the product since christmas and was now able to register it, 18 days later. i haven't even used it yet and i dont like it already...

5 out of 5 stars Great Value - Runs Great on Both Old & New Computers   December 16, 2009

PhotoPlus X3 Digital Studio

For photo editing, Adobe Photoshop is the gold standard (with a price to match!). I've been using Photoshop for a long time and it is a great product. But there's one problem with it... you need a lot of computing power or you wait and wait for processes to finish. While this is not a problem with newer computers, it can drive you crazy on older ones. I have an old laptop I take on vacation. If it's stolen or damaged, it's no big deal. So I've been looking for a program that will do a lot of what Photoshop does but runs fairly well on older PCs. This software seems to be a good solution.

If you know Photoshop, you'll feel right at home with this software. The menus are very similar. Workflow is pretty much the same. It also includes some nice features that automate some processes such as QuickFix Studio (fixes common problems with only a few mouse clicks),one click red eye and scratch removal, skin tone fixing, object removal, etc. It also includes modules for working with RAW files and making HDR images.

As far as performance is concerned, it runs fast on older Pentium 4 or Centrino based computers. Run it on a new dual core system and it flies. Output quality is very high, on par with Photoshop.

If you're looking for image editing software to run on an older machine or looking to move up to software with more capabilities than the software that came with your camera, give this a try. At less than $75.00, it's a deal!
